Notes on Drain and Soak-away Trench Dug at 601273 Hinton Charterhouse: St John the Baptist
Faculty reference: 2016-003482 A shallow drain tranch and soakaway trench were dug in the north-east part of the churchyard of St. John, Hinton Charterhouse. No archaeological features of any kind were discovered. No evidence of graves was found within the trench, nor were any human remains found. No worked stone was found, apart from several fragments of blue-grey roofing slate, possibly derived from the roof of the adjoining church, vestry or boiler room. A small number of unstratified animal bones were found, all of them lying separately in the ground and not in articulation.
