Summary Description

Replaced an earlier 14th or 16th century chapel which now lies in ruins about a mile to the south east. Built 1865-6 on an isolated fell-side owned by the Vane family, this family is commemorated in the church by memorial windows and an inscribed pew. Other families in the small local community are also recorded in more modest memorials in the church. The church remains virtually as originally built and fitted out, except for the reversible curtained ‘vestry’ at the back of the nave. Altar cross made of timber from ruins of earlier chapel covered in brass.
