Summary Description

Another "Ancient" church and again much altered but it does not appear to matter that most of what we see is of the 1882 restoration; there is a feeling of tranquility. The beautiful setting and the buildings long history combine to create an interesting place. According to Mannix and Whelan (1847) the church was "a plain edifice with a belfry containing two bells" and the vestry was added in 1847. There are traces of two ancient doorways, one leading into the nave on the north side and the other into the chancel on the south side. In Corney History compiled by S. Awmack there are Victorian descriptions of "at least 50 sculls" being found under the church floor during renovations. The windows are Victorian 'Gothic' in style and apparently replaced, during the restoration, much simpler versions. The Victorian restoration also revealed evidence of original Medieval Gothic windows.
