Summary Description

Built in 1932 to serve the needs of the surrounding housing estate being constructed at that time St. Herbert's is a simple building with brick exterior and a pitched slated roof to the nave over a modern interpretation of a hammerbeam roof structure. The structural elements do succeed in giving some interest to an otherwise extremely plain interior. The sanctuary is hemispherical behind a plain semi-circular arch and contained within a semi-circular brick exterior. The aisles and apse are flat roofed and the nave is lit by large dormer windows. The interior, unashamedly modern, does provide an agreeable atmosphere.
