A historical assessment, commissioned by English Heritage, was carried during the autumn and winter of 1999/2000 by Nick Cahill, on behalf of the Cornwall Archaeological Unit, in order to inform proposals for the regeneration of Hayle. The report provides a comprehensive account of the standing historic fabric and its contribution to present settlement character, and assesses the potential for buried archaeological remains.
