Title: Archaeological watching brief
Description: Report detailing the methodologies and working results of an archaeological watching brief at All Saints Church, Bednall. Excavation comprised a drainage run between the church and the road along the length of an existing path to a depth of about 0.4m and three areas within the church building to a depth of about 0.3m. A sequence of naturally derived subsoil and overlying topsoil was recorded across the site. The top of a well or cistern was recorded in the drainage trench south of the chancel, apparently connected to a network of pipes, although recording was hampered by safety concerns, Demolition or construction rubble was recorded with the church, perhaps related to its construction in the mid 19th century or subsequent renovation. No human remains were observed or recovered.
