Summary Description

The church is designed in the Early English style, with some idiosyncratic features. The shouldered and gabled bellcote to the west elevation takes advantage of the ridge location to provide some vertical emphasis. A small chapel designed by William Chissold of nearby Stroud, a little known local architect, in 1864-6, replacing on the same site a mission room established in the village Poor House by the Revd Vaughan Fox to cater for the local farm workers. This small Victorian church of Cotswold stone is located at the western edge of Shortwood, now a residential suburb of Nailsworth.
